Export

Tiviski’s unique and delicious camel cheese was designed and intended for export, namely to the nearby European Union, where a rare cheese is likely to find an appreciative gourmet audience.
However, although there is widespread interest - in many countries and for various reasons – in camel dairy products, two main hurdles have not yet been overcome :

Logistics

Nouakchott airport does not have very many links to the rest of the world, whereas fresh perishable products must be chilled. This requires special facilities, guaranteed bookings and safe transfers in foreign airports. Besides, transport time reduces the useful shelf life, which is 8 to 10 days for fresh milk provided it stays cold all the time. It is not a problem for Caravane cheese, which has a one-month shelf-life.

Regulations

Many countries have complex regulations governing the import of fresh dairy products, not necessarily related to actual product quality. The European Union, for instance, has a set of non-tariff barriers that only allow dairy imports from a limited number of countries, on the basis of stringent requirements such as the presence in the exporting country of an EU-approved certification laboratory.

E.U. countries : As a result, Tiviski’s camel products are not yet exported to European countries, but after many years’ negotiations, there is hope that in a near future the required laboratory may be set up.  Any new development will be posted on this page

Other countries  : Importers in other countries are kindly requested to check their national regulations, as well as airfreight issues, before enquiring.  They should also ascertain whether they are equipped to store and distribute fresh dairy.
